Working life values those who embrace new opportunities with an open mind and do their job with a good attitude day in and day out. Timo Hernesniemi is just such an employee. His story tells of a brave change of field, multi-skills and how the right team makes everyday life meaningful.
Timo currently works at Satotuku as a sound collector, and when necessary, in the packaging department. In the sound collector's job, products are collected according to instructions received in a headset - the work requires precision and the ability to work efficiently even in a hurry.
Before his current job, Timo worked in the construction industry for up to 10–15 years. However, the physical work began to strain his knees, and a change of field was ahead. He is studying mechanical and production technology and finally ended up in his current job on his wife's advice.
– This job is still quite physical, but driving a machine makes it much easier. In addition, there is a really good team here, which helped right from the start. It's nice to come to work, Timo says.
Versatility keeps work meaningful
Timo has been working in his current position for about a year. At first, it was a so-called summer job, but the work turned out to be meaningful and fit well into his everyday life. Clear working hours make it easier to plan life and bring the desired rhythm to everyday life.
The most important thing for Timo in work is versatility and the opportunity to learn new things. At almost forty, he feels that he can appreciate the fact that he gets to do different things at work.
- Multi-skills keep work interesting. Both in the construction industry and in his current job, it has been important to be able to do many different tasks, he says.
Timo also has a positive attitude towards challenges and believes that new situations should be faced with an open mind.
– Every challenge is met with a positive attitude. If something starts to go wrong, it is sometimes worth taking a breather and then continuing forward with a new idea.
According to Timo, a good work atmosphere also comes from keeping work and leisure time balanced and separate.
– When I leave home for work, I leave my worries at home. At work, you have other things to think about, and at home you can often see things more clearly later.
Smooth cooperation and a good team
