Aaltovoima Lapland Chef Academy – from training to working life

Do you want to be a Chef in Lapland? Aaltovoima Lapland Chef Academy trains you in two days to meet the requirements of Lapland's best hotels and restaurants.

Aaltovoima Lapland Chef Academy offers cooks a fast and practical route to employment opportunities in Lapland. Over two days, participants will practice working in a top-level professional kitchen, receive personal feedback, and learn about the requirements of hotels and restaurants in Lapland. The trainers are Aki Kantelinen and Johan Kurkela. Those who successfully complete the Academy will receive a certificate, after which Aaltovoima will connect them with job roles in Lapland that match their skills.

The event will be held in Helsinki from 17–18 October, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and is free for participants. You only need your own workwear and knives. Please note that any accommodation must be paid for by yourself.

Trainers

Participants at the Aaltovoima Lapland Chef Academy are trained by leading names in Finnish gastronomy: Ikaalinen Spa & Resort's Head Chef Aki Kantelinen and Chef of the Year 2023 and Bocuse d’Or World Finals contestant Johan Kurkela.

Program 17–18 October 2026

Day 1
Quality and Professional Kitchen Work: Expectations of Lapland hotels and restaurants, raw material handling, preparation techniques, presentation, hygiene, efficient mise en place, and working as part of a kitchen team.

Day 2
Practical Demonstration and Employment: Guided practical task, personal feedback, skills assessment, working life readiness, working in Lapland, and Aaltovoima's recruitment and job placement process.

Conclusion
Certificate and Next Step: Aaltovoima Lapland Chef Academy certificate for successful completion, and review of a suitable job placement and career path based on the participant's skills.

Group size

10–15 cooks will be selected for the first Academy. The limited group size enables personal guidance, practical demonstrations, and genuine interaction with the trainers.
